Players that we were always (always) linked to but never (never) signed...
Marcus STEWART - when he was banging them in regularly for BRISTOL ROVERS...

Dean HOLDSWORTH - huge West Ham United fan but our tight-cunt chairman, Terry Brown, was never going to cough-up the money to sign him from Wimbledon... Very decent forward in his prime...

Jason DODD - pretty average full-back for Southampton... Was always linked with us though...

Duane DARBY - I remember our fans going mental when we were linked with him... Thankfully, we never signed him...

Shaun WRIGHT-PHILLIPS - would've loved him here when he was still a good player... Always linked but never got him...

You cunts?!?!... Yes, I'm bored... Got a stinking cold as well...

May already have been mentioned, can't be bothered to look right through the list, but Paul Mariner is definitely one we missed out on that would have made a difference

In the late 70's their were two strikers at Bristol Rovers dubbed smash and grab by the press. One was Alan Warboys can't for the life of me remember the other geezers name. They were always in the frame to come to us.

I've just signed Marcus Stewart for us in an old CM 97/98 game I started after finding the CD in the loft and an XP PC it'll play on.

I'll let you know how he gets on.

I met Muzzy Izzet in Liverpool this season after our win, in of all places a karaoke bar. He wasn't singing.

Genuinely nice bloke, having a beer and had 0 idea we'd won until I told him.

Think Marcus STEWART would've done well with us... Should've signed him in the mid-90s when he was still young...

Remember Marcus Stewart played a trial game for us against the Rep of Ireland for Tony Gales testimonial. Arguably also the last game you could stand in chicken run.

Bromley, I remember Harry saying that Kinnear insisted on £5m plus Rio Ferdinand for Dean Holdsworth. This was in 1997 or so and was described by Harry as 'silly money', which it was.

I remember us being linked with Peter Davenport quite a lot when we were struggling in the late 80s.

I'm sure salas broke his leg or something when the deal to sign him was nearly done. It was around the time schevchenko didn't 'pull up Any trees'

So we got hartson and kitson instead...

Re: Players that we were always (always) linked to but never (never) signed...
If I remember it right, the Dean Holdsworth episode was nothing to do with Terry Brown, but Joe Kinnear being his usual arsehole self and wanting too much money plus half our first team in exchange. Kinnear is, and always will be, a complete stain on British football
